WHAT IS THE EUROPEAN HEALTH INSURANCE CARD?
The new European health insurance card is a guarantee for getting the necessary medical care during your stay abroad. The card facilitates your movements because it avoids preliminary administrative procedures. In particular, the card replaces the E 111 holiday form and the E 128 forms issued for students and diplaced workers. It guarantees direct access to care without prior administrative action.

WHAT TO DO TO RECEIVE THE CARD?
You can at any time request a European card from your health insurance service online https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/startApplication.do . The period of validity of the European card varies according to the duration of your previous affiliation.

WHAT CAN YOU DO WITH THE CARD?
The card allows you to go directly to the agreed care providers. The services will be provided to you according to the legislation and according to the modalities of the country where you stay. You can claim medically necessary care for the duration of your stay abroad. THE CARD IS NOT VALID IF THE PURPOSE OF THE TRIP IS TO BE TREATED ABROAD 

THE VALIDITY OF THE CARD
The validity period of the EHIC can not exceed the expiry date therein. However, the card is no longer valid if the affiliation ceases before this deadline.

WHAT TO DO IF …?
If you no longer have your card, or if it is out of date, you can contact your health insurance service which will provide you with a new card as soon as possible. In case of emergency, a temporary replacement certificate can be issued directly by your health insurance service.

• AND the countries of the European Economic Area: Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and in Switzerland
